John C. Baciu Sr. 1922-2012

WARREN - John C. Baciu Sr., 89, died at 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012.

He was born Nov. 1, 1922, in Warren, the son of the late John and Salomie Popa Baciu.

John was a 1941 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. He retired in 1990 as the manager at Abruzzi Cafe 422, where he worked for 12 years. He had previously owned and operated the Ohio Inn on North Park for 20 years. John was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish (St. James Church) and enjoyed bowling and reading.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Airborne, serving during World War II in the European Theatre.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Bufalini Baciu, whom he married July 20, 1955; two children, John C. Baciu Jr. of Warren and Lori (Dr. Daniel) Tonne of Reynoldsburg; four grandchildren, Anthony and Zachary Baciu, and Andrew and Merritt Tonne; and three sisters, Christine Ciulei of Warren, Mary Jane Schuller of Cortland and Helen Moga of Hubbard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Nick Baciu; and a sister, Anna Bolta.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and 9 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel in Warren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish (St. James Church), with the Rev. James P. Walker officiating.

Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery, Cortland.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. James Church Restoration Fund, 2532 Burton St. S.E., Warren, OH 44484, or Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512.
