Outgoing Trumbull Career and Technical Center Superintendent D. Wayne McClain deserves an enjoyable retirement after so many decades of bringing professionalism to the local education field.
McClain, who has served as TCTC superintendent since February 2002, plans to retire July 31, 2013. The 69-year-old has spent 48 years in education, including 29 years as a superintendent. Before joining the TCTC, McClain was the associate superintendent of the Trumbull County Educational Service Center, the superintendent of Maplewood schools for more than 17 years, and an elementary and middle school principal in the LaBrae district.
McClain joined the TCTC during a significant transformation. Several districts had just joined the career center, which was shifting its focus from traditional vocational programs to an expanded curriculum with an emphasis on college prep. While McClain served as superintendent, not only did the school increase its enrollment, it sharply increased the percentage of its graduates going to college.
Today, McClain's influence can be felt the moment visitors enter the TCTC. The hospitable reception from faculty, staff and students and the professionalism displayed by instructors is known to instill confidence and pride in the students and their families.
Former Trumbull County Superintendent Anthony D'Ambrosio once called McClain a ''great human being'' and a ''very caring individual.'' We wish him well.
