Oakland Center for the Arts names new board president
Local actor/director Cleric Costes was named new president of the board of directors at the Oakland Center for the Arts.
Costes, a Kent State graduate in theater studies, worked for several years at Chicago Shakespeare Theater and founded the Blackbird Theatre Company in Chicago. Locally, he has performed at Kent-Trumbull Theatre, Youngstown Playhouse, Victorian Players and The Oakland. He succeeds Christopher Fidram, who will take an advisory position on the board.
Michael Dempsey will serve as the theater's office administrator and handle marketing, media and public relations for the Oakland. The theater was founded in 1986 and has been located at 220 W. Boardman St. in downtown Youngstown since 1999.
Transportation antiques show comes to Niles
The 30th annual Northeastern Ohio Railroad & Transportation Artifact Show & Sale runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at McMenamy's Banquet Center, 325 Youngstown-Warren Road, Niles.
About 175 vendor tables will feature thousands of railroad antiques and transportation items, including bus, trolley, Great Lakes steamship and airline memorabilia with an emphasis on the railroad and transportation systems that served northeastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania.

Extras needed for horror film 'Dead Life 2'
Schotten Filmworks and Laythrom Media are seeking volunteers to appear as extras in the locally produced independent horror film ''Dead Life 2.''
The extras will portray miliitia members for one day of filming planned in early September. Persons with camouflage clothing and/or airsoft gear are preferred, but all volunteers are welcome. Filming will take place in Brookfield. Extras will not be paid.

Ryan speaks for Universal Cafe series
U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Niles, will speak at 7 p.m. Monday as part of the Universal Cafe series at First Unitarian Universalist Church of Youngstown, 1105 Elm St., Youngstown.
Ryan will discuss his book ''A Mindful Nation: How a Simple Practice Can Help Us Reduce Stress, Improve Performance, and Recapture the American Spirit.'' Admission is a suggested donation of $3.
The talk will be preceded by an optional dinner at 6 p.m. prepared by chef Adam Lee. The menu will include stuffed organic heirloom tomato with Miller's grassfed braised beef or Breakneck Acres organic Midnight Black Turtle Beans, greens and Lucky Penny Sheep Feta served with a grilled ear of corn and fresh fruit (vegetarian meal available upon request when making reservations). Shakespeare comedy plays Mill Creek
The Mahoning Valley Players will stage William Shakespeare's ''Twelfth Night'' for two outdoor performances at Mill Creek Park.
Director Cleric Costes sets the comedy about a woman who poses as a man to be near the man she loves in the 1920s.
Performances start at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday in Wick Recreation Area's Judge Morley Pavilion. Admission is free; however, donations will be collected to offset costs.
