BENEFIT TO HELP HOWLAND GIRL: The Marisa Kay Scrappers Team will join Bruster's on U.S. Route 422 in Girard for ''Scoop Night'' from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday. The Marisa Kay Project will receive 20 percent of all ice cream sales during the event. The project will receive all proceeds from the megaphone sales also.

Plans are for a tailgate party and game on Aug. 31 featuring bands, a raffle and a chili cookoff. Cost is $8 per ticket.

Marisa Kay is the 7-year-old Howland girl who was injured by a Bobcat loader in late May and is in rehabilitation in Cleveland. Proceeds for the Marisa Kay Project will be applied to help make handicapped renovations to the family home and help secure handicapped transportation.

TEAMS SOUGHT FOR GRILL OFF: The second annual Grill Off sponsored by Team Rebelz Relay for Life will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 25 at Harding Park, Hubbard. The event will include games, 50-50 raffle, Chinese auction, prizes and concessions. Those participating in the event will have their name placed for a drawing. Call Melanie at 330-207-6647.

HILLSIDE STROKE GROUP WON'T MEET IN AUGUST: The Hillside Stroke Support Group will not meet in August. The next scheduled meeting is 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sept. 6 in the boardroom. The speaker is a pharmacist who will answer questions about medications.

GRANT RECEIVED FOR BACKPACK PROGRAM: Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley received a $3,000 grant through the Target's Community Giving program to help fund the BackPack Program. The funds will be used to help sustain the program throughout the 2012-13 school year.

The BackPack Program is a national program of Feeding America, and is designed to meet the needs of children when other resources for food are not available, such as weekends and holidays. For information, call 330-792-5522.

WORKSHOPS OFFERED AT OFFICE: The Ohio State University Extension in northeast Ohio is offering two workshops to help landowners understand the financial and tax implications of oil and gas leases and royalties.

"Financial and Tax Implications of Oil and Gas Leases / Royalties in Northeast Ohio" will feature David Marrison, extension associate professor.

The available meetings are 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Trumbull County Extension, 520 W. Main St., Cortland, and from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Ashtabula County Extension office, 39 Wall St., Jefferson. The registration fee is $5. TCAP OFFERS SUMMER CRISIS PROGRAM: The Trumbull Community Action Program, 1230 Palmyra Road S.W., will operate the summer crisis program through Aug. 31. TCAP will begin scheduling appointments. Eligible applicants must meet criteria.
