Theory on taxes a Republican lie

August 5, 2012
Tribune Chronicle | TribToday.com

DEAR EDITOR:

This is about a recent Mallard Fillmore comic, about how the 51 percent couldn't protest the 49 percent who don't pay "taxes" because they were too busy working.

First off, this was in bad taste besides being inaccurate. The comic "assumes" that the 49 percent are not paying any taxes at all, which is a lie. This joke is based on the "federal income tax" and nothing else; however, the comic does not clarify that on purpose to make it look like the 49 percent do not pay any taxes at all.

The next is that it is portraying the working poor as not working and that only people who pay federal income taxes are worthy of being called a worker. Again not true. This comic is just a perpetual lie and stereotype to divide the working class against each other. It is class warfare from those who support and advocate for the rich who, in fact, many do not pay their fair share of taxes if any at all.

It is a Republican lie. It is done to keep people from knowing the truth about each other and who are working and actually doing the labor that the rich use and feed off of.
