CORTLAND - Carol J. Lang, 77, died peacefully on Sunday, July 29, 2012, at the Cortland Health Care Facility.
She was born June 8, 1935, the daughter of John R. Carter and Helen Buterbaugh Carter.
Carol was a graduate from Warren Township High School in May 1953.

She celebrated a full life with loving family and friends. In her career, she was the Maplewood High School secretary from 1972 to 1980, a member of the Trumbull Rod & Gun Auxiliary Club from 1953 to 1985 and was the aqua aerobics instructor at Cortland Fitness Centre in 1984.
Carol also was on the Mecca Fire Auxiliary team from 1962 to 1985, volunteered for the Red Cross Blood Service from 1989 to 1992 and managed the office for the SCOPE senior centers from 1992 to 2006. She also was an avid NASCAR fan.
Surviving are her husband, Jerry, whom she married Nov. 5, 1955; sons; Richard S. of Bessemer, Pa., and Brian E. (Leann) of Cortland; a sister, Catherine A. (Thellman) Carter; many nieces; nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; a grandson, Thomas Dale Raynor Jr. and a great-grandson, James Robert Raynor.
Preceding her in death were her daughter, Helen Bonita Lang, who died in 1972, and a brother, John S. Carter.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the McFarland & Son Funeral Home, where family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Inurnment will follow at East Mecca Cemetery at a later date.
