LEAVITTSBURG - Project Be Somebody has scheduled two upcoming fundraisers to help get toys to children later this year for Christmas.
Lisa Booze, president of Project Be Somebody, said a Christmas toy drive is currently being held. Toys, clothing, gift cards, produce and personal care items are being accepted.
''Gifts for children or young teens are in need, keeping in mind young teens are often forgotten during the holidays, and we want to change that,'' Booze said.
Dro-off points are ACE Hardware store, Crowder Feed Store, Wagon Wheel Bar and Lucky Inn on Route 5, all in Leavittsburg.
The second event is a Christmas toy drive charity poker run beginning at 11 a.m. Aug. 25. This year, registration begins at 11 a.m. at the Wagon Wheel in Leavittsburg. The entry fee for the poker run is $10 for the drivers, $5 for the passenger, with all vehicles welcome.
Project Be Somebody was instrumental in getting a new handicapped-accessible playground constructed by the LaBrae Athletic Club ballfields.
