No good reason for theater shooting

DEAR EDITOR:

The Colorado tragedy created by another sick, unstable character has us all again wondering why these situations continue to occur in this country. People, both young and old, died needlessly. A good number were injured and some of them may not survive.

I don't think anyone can give us a good reason.

Some say that our gun laws are much too lax. Organizations such as the National Rifle Association have a lot of power and influence, especially in Washington, D.C. Any real serious limitations on any weapons will never really get any serious consideration. The Second Amendment to our Constitution rules.

Others say that the institution we call family has broken down. They believe that too many young people are not receiving the time, attention and love needed to become a stable adult.

Even others say that a free, open society like ours is the type of environment where people feel they have a right to do whatever they want to express themselves. Knowing the difference between right and wrong is not a factor.

Will we continue to see these kinds of horrible tragedies? It is very likely. There are many copycats out there. And as long as such people think that this kind of expression will gain the attention of others, they will act.
