Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hayes of Cortland celebrated their 50th anniversary with their family while vacationing at the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Don Hayes and the former Shirley Elston were married July 14, 1962, by the Rev. Theodore Mayer and the Rev. Harry Hayes (father of the groom), at First United Methodist Church in Warren. Linda Farkas Belcastro was the maid of honor and William Gintert the best man.
The couple have two children, Gary (Myrna) Hayes of Westminster, Md., and Vicki (Brian) Battaglia of Champion. They also have four grandchildren.

Don is retired from RMI Titanium Co. in Niles where he was general manager of planning and scheduling. Shirley is retired from Dr. Gary A. Hyde's practice, where she was a licensed optician.
The couple are members of Wildare United Methodist Church and belong to the Challenger's Sunday School class.
