RG Steel workers eligible for benefits

WARREN - The more than 1,000 workers at RG Steel are eligible for federal benefits to help them transition to new jobs and buy health insurance, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown announced Wednesday.

The workers have been certified to receive Trade Adjustment Assistance and a Health Coverage Tax Credit.

RG Steel has facilities in Warren, Yorkville, Mingo Junction and Martins Ferry.

The benefits in the TAA program include training for a new career, income support and job search and relocation allowances. The health coverage tax credit helps workers and their families buy coverage to replace the employer-sponsored coverage they lost.

RG, which owns the 1,235-worker RG Steel Warren mill, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy May 31, citing weak business conditions.
