The annual Niles Heritage Day will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 5 at the Ward-Thomas Museum, 503 Brown St.
The cost to attend is $5 for adults and free for children 11 and younger accompanied by an adult.
Included in the event are tours of the 14 room mansion, the barn and the gardens. Museum docents will be on hand to answer questions.
Caricature artist Rick Muccio will create drawings of visitors and quilt artist June Karovic will return with demonstrations of traditional hand quilting. Barbara James will be at the event with her display of antique buttons, including new acquisitions to her collection.
Civil War items will be displayed under a large tent near the barn, and inside the barn a private collection of Civil War artifacts will be on exhibit. Also to be exhibited are Southwest Indian artifacts including large paintings, bead work items, dishes and other Indian artifacts.
At 2 p.m. on the museum grounds, Niles Mayor Ralph Infante will cut a birthday cake in celebration of the 150 years since the Ward-Thomas Museum was built by James Ward.
Raptor and waterfowl rehabilitator Heather Merritt will be at the event for a special Birds in Flight program. Merritt, who presents her educational programs throughout northeastern Ohio, has had an interest in caring for animals since the age of 3. She is often called to help injured wildlife and will bring some of her live birds to perform. Merritt's program will begin at 2:15 p.m.
In addition to the historical events and festivities, live music will be performed by Little Joe and the Girard Community Swing Band.
