LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. - Sandra K. Sylvia, 75, was called home by our Lord and Savior on July 14, 2012, peacefully in her sleep, after complications from a stroke.
She was born on Dec. 25, 1936, in Warren to Marvin Ray "Abe" and Lillith "Lily" Leith Minnick, and remained until she graduated in 1955.
Sandy attended Kent State University, then moved to Pasadena, Calif., for college and married Thomas James Sylvia III. She moved around until settling in Los Alamitos, Calif., in 1976, where she raised her children.

She enjoyed reading, doing needlepoint and spending time with her family.
She was a wonderful person, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known her and her gentle, kind and loving spirit.
She is survived by her daughter, Velvet (Wade) Garlington; son, Thomas James "TJ" (Clara) Sylvia IV; and five grandsons, Brandon Chaney, Austin Garlington, Hunter Garlington and Thomas James ''L'il TJ'' Sylvia V; and one granddaughter, Sierra Sylvia.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. Aug. 4 at Los Alamitos Recreation and Community Services Department, 10911 Oak St., Los Alamitos, Calif. 90720.
