The W.D. Packard Concert Band is offering a double dose of music this weekend.
The Big Band Sound of Packard and the Packard Dixieland Band will play an outdoor concert on Saturday, and the full band will perform on Sunday at the South Lawn Band Shell.
The theme for Saturday's concert is ''Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and the Blues,'' and the big band, led by Daniel Carioti will be joined by its regular vocalist Helen Welch as well as Angelo Babbaro.
Thomas A. Groth, executive director of the W.D. Packard Concert Band, said the band has backed Babbaro before, and some of its members also have recorded with the Youngstown singer.
''He performs in that (Frank) Sinatra style, and he'll sing songs reminiscent of those Sinatra days,'' Groth said. ''And Helen will be doing a number of different things with the band.''
Babbaro will sing such standards as ''I Get a Kick Out of You'' and ''Fly Me to the Moon'' and Welch's set will include ''Blue Skies,'' ''Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend,'' ''Fever'' and ''At Last.'' The Packard Dixieland Band will be showcased on ''Dixie Downbeat,'' ''Do You Know What it Means to Miss New Orleans'' and ''High Society.''
The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Conductor Donald W. Byo will lead the full band at 7 p.m. Sunday in a program that will include music from the musicals ''Can-Can'' and ''Mame,'' Paul Anka's ''The Longest Day'' and the John Philip Sousa tango ''The Gliding Girl.''
Ben Ammon, principal tuba player for the Packard band, will be featured on Herbert L. Clarke's ''From the Shores of the Mighty Pacific'' and Art Dedrick's ''A Touch of Tuba.'' Ammon is a Dana School of Music graduate and teaches in the Cleveland Heights School District.
Unlike past years, Saturday's concert isn't part of the National Packard Car Show festivities, but Groth said he expects some of the attendees to venture over for the music. Admission for both concerts is free, and funding is provided by the W.D. Packard Trust.
