New auto sales show slippage

June figures down 3.6 percent from year ago

WARREN - Area new-vehicle sales saw a 3.6 percent drop in June from the same month a year ago, according to an Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio report issued Thursday.

New car and truck registrations in Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties hit 2,134, down from 2,217 a year ago. Year-to-date sales also remained below the year-ago pace at 12,071 to 12,840 a year ago, or about a 6 percent decline.

Bob & Chuck Eddy Chrysler Dodge Jeep led all dealers with 155 new-vehicle sales. Taylor Kia and Sweeney Chevrolet tied for second with 118 each.

Spitzer Autoworld in Lordstown topped all Trumbull County dealers with 91 new vehicles sold.

Used vehicle sales also slipped locally by 6.3 percent to 3,253 in June from 3,470 a year ago. But used car sales were up 2.6 percent year-to-date at 21,619.

Bob & Chuck Eddy Chrysler Dodge Jeep also led all dealers in total new and used sales at 200. Greenwood Chevrolet was second with 199.

Area buyers continued to favor the Chevrolet Malibu, buying 163. The Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze was second with 95 sales.

Locally, Chevy led all makes with 589 new sales. Ford was second at 330.
