Motorcyclist charged in crash
BRACEVILLE - A 64-year-old motorcyclist from Marion was charged with assured clear distance after state troopers say he rear ended a car on state Route 5 about 4:45 p.m. Friday.
A spokesman for the Ohio State Highway Patrol Southington Post said Anthony Lash was driving west on Route 5 at state Route 82 and tried to change lanes. Lash looked behind him, and when he turned to look forward again, he collided with the back of a car, the spokesman said.
The driver of the car was not injured. Lash was treated for minor injuries, the spokesman said.
I-680 accident under investigation
BOARDMAN - State troopers at the Canfield post are investigating a three-vehicle accident on Interstate 680 that occurred about 12:30 p.m. Friday.
A spokesman for the post said a tractor-trailer was traveling south on the freeway near U.S. Route 224 when it collided with a minivan, which then collided with a pickup truck.
The van and pickup truck were stopped when the tractor-trailer collided with them, reports state. The spokesman said several people were treated for minor injuries.
Names, conditions and any charges were not available late Friday.
Motorcyclist flips after hitting dog
MESOPOTAMIA - An Atwater man was flown via emergency helicopter to a Cleveland hospital late Thursday after he struck a dog, causing the motorcycle to flip.
John W. Oles, 59, was flown to Cleveland MetroHealth Hospital after the crash at 10:20 p.m. Thursday on state Route 534, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries, reports said.
OSHP said alcohol "appears to have been involved," in the crash.
Oles was driving his 1978 Harley-Davidson Soft Tail Deluxe motorcycle with Kim M. Oles, 56, of Atwater, on the back when they struck the dog that crossed in front of them, according to the patrol.
Both were ejected from the motorcycle after it overturned, reports said.
Kim Oles was treated for minor injuries at the scene. Neither was wearing a helmet. OSHP is investigating the crash.
Youngstown cops get gun during stop
YOUNGSTOWN - Police found a loaded .380-caliber semiautomatic handgun during a traffic stop Thursday afternoon at McGuffey Road and Albert Street.
About 3:20 p.m. officers pulled over a car driven by Alexis Rodriquez, 26, of Valley Street, that had an expired license plate sticker.
Rodriquez acted like he had something to hide, reports state, and when police searched his car they found the gun in a center console.
He was taken to the Mahoning County Jail on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and having weapons while under disability.
Municipal Court records were not available Friday on when he will be arraigned.
