YOUNGSTOWN - Police say a man was shot several times late Wednesday evening after a car pulled into his East Side driveway, and he went out to meet it.
The death of Brian Angel, 23, is the city's 18th homicide of 2012.
He was found shot to death about 11:15 p.m. in a driveway at 3040 McGuffey Road.
Reports state Angel was shot several times, and police collected 11 spent shell casings from the crime scene.
Police who were called for a report of a man shot were waved down by family members and they found Angel lying on his back, reports state.
A witness told police that Angel walked up to a large car that pulled into his drive and that someone in the car fired several shots at him.
Several people who were inside the home said they also heard gunfire.
Angel was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where reports state he died about 11:50 p.m.
Municipal Court records state Angel had a domestic violence arrest in 2007, two misdemeanor drug paraphernalia arrests in 2010 and an arrest for driving under suspension in 2009.
Police Chief Rod Foley said detectives are trying to find a motive for the shooting. He said Angel had a criminal history, which suggests his death may be in retaliation for another crime.
The last homicide in the city was June 29, when a man was shot to death at Fifth and Granada avenues on the North Side.
Youngstown had 23 homicides in 2011.
