USW, ArcelorMittal set Pittsburgh talks

United Steelworkers and ArcelorMittal contract bargainers plan to meet next Monday in Pittsburgh and continue negotiations until they reach an agreement, union officials said Monday.

The four-year contract for the union representing about 14,000 workers, including 100-plus at the company's coke plant near Warren, will expire Sept. 1, the union said.

Negotiations began May 29, when the company proposed reducing wages and benefits by more than $28 an hour, including a proposal for more cuts if management determines they're necessary due to a business downturn, according to the union.

Bill Prejsnar, president of the USW Local 1375 unit at the coke plant, sits on the bargaining committee.
