Why the higher gas prices here?

June 30, 2012
Tribune Chronicle | TribToday.com

DEAR EDITOR:

Why are gas prices in the Mahoning Valley still high?

This is a question that I've posed to our elected officials in Washington, only to get a form letter response.

We travel to Maryland frequently and are amazed by the gas prices outside of this area. Recently we were paying $3.59 a gallon and in Maryland it was $3.21 and as close as Grove City, Pa., it was $3.39.

Why, in an area that is supposed to be in a down economy, would the prices be higher? If anyone can explain, I'd appreciate it, or I can just continue to believe that we are being gouged and our elected leaders continue to allow this to happen.
