FIFTH SPARROW HOSTS FUNDRAISER: The second annual 5K Freedom Fun Run and 1-Mile Walk to benefit the Fifth Sparrow will be held Saturday at the Mineral Ridge High School's Joe Lane Stadium, 1334 Seaborn St. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the walk at 9 a.m. and the fun run at 9:15 a.m. The awards ceremony will follow at 10:30 a.m.
The Fifth Sparrow Ministry offers a covenant care home for Christian women leaving prison to provide help and healing for these women of domestic violence who are trapped in a cycle of abuse, addiction, apathy and abandonment. The goal is to raise funds, awareness and participation within the community so women can return to society as healthy and productive citizens.
Pre-registration is $12, with race day registration $15. The overall first place male and female finishers will receive a $100 cash prize. LIBERTY CHURCH HOSTS FIREWORKS: Freedom Place and Liberty Assembly of God, 6779 Belmont Ave., will host a ''Salute to Liberty'' fireworks celebration at 10 p.m. Tuesday. The event is free and includes food, music and entertainment at 9:30 p.m. at the church.
CEMETERY ASSOCIATION MEETS: The Southington Cemetery Association met recently in the Graham Cemetery to discuss old 1800s markers that have fallen over and need new footers. The association needs volunteers to help and can call 330-898-3889 to help with the restoration project. Volunteers did landscaping and Scouts did flower arranging. New fencing has been installed around the back and sides of the Pinecrest Cemetery by Eagle Fence Co. of Champion. The association meets twice a year. The next meeting will be 6:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at the chapel.
GRANT RECEIVED: The United Methodist Community Center in Youngstown received a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor for $300,000 to support the Ready Workforce Program, which will serve 108 veterans in Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
The program will be offered at the organization's two sites, in Youngstown and Warren, working with community organizations and providers to prepare veterans for entrance into training programs and employment.

MOVE FORWARD PLANS EVENT: Move America Forward is planning the fifth annual Troopathon "Never Forget Our Troops" at 4 p.m. July 12. This year's theme is "Never Forget'' and will have volunteers sending care package shipment to to troops.
