YOUNGSTOWN - Officials say a federal grand jury has issued several indictments during an investigation into a South Side based heroin ring.
At a press conference in City Council Chambers Friday, federal, state and city law enforcement officials said the arrests were the culmination of cooperation between several different agencies and reached back to an investigation that began in 2012.
Members of the ring received their heroin from Chicago and about 125 police officers began serving search warrants and making arrests starting about 4:30 a.m. Friday of those who were indicted.
A total of 18 people were indicted.
