WARREN - U.S. Rep. Timothy J. Ryan, D-Niles, on Wednesday released a letter to government officials urging quick processing of Trade Adjustment Assistance, or TAA, benefits for workers being laid off from RG Steel's Warren mill.
''It is my understanding a petition for these employees ... was submitted earlier this month,'' he wrote in the letter to U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Hilda Solis. ''I want to encourage DOL's full cooperation and expeditious review for the men and women who have been so adversely affected by the unanticipated layoffs at RG Steel.''
The mill, which is being idled due to its parent's money crunch, employs about 1,100 hourly union workers and 135 salaried and office workers.
