Falls fest set for the fourth

NEWTON FALLS HOLDS FESTIVAL: The Newton Falls Lions Club Festival will be held from Saturday to July 4 at the city park off Quarry Street. There will be rides, games, food and entertainment daily. The parade will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday starting at the Church of God, 426 W. Broad St. Fireworks are 10 p.m. Wednesday. A pie baking contest and auction will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday for judging followed by the auction. Musical entertainment includes Bring Bentar from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday; After Midnight, 7 to 11 p.m. Monday; Rudy and the Professionals, 7 to 11 p.m. Tuesday; and Jenny and the Jets, 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday. There will be a treasure hunt at 3 p.m. Tuesday and fireworks July 4. Midway by Premium Shows of America.

ASSOCIATION TO HOLD CLEANUP: The Historic Perkins Homestead Neighborhood Association made arrangements with the city to mulch the beds in front of city hall along Mahoning Avenue starting at 8 a.m. Saturday. The city is providing the mulch with volunteers needed to help spread it. Those who can help are asked to bring wheelbarrow, shovel, pitchfork or rake.

BOOK SALE SET AT CHURCH: Unity Church, 1220 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty, will hold a book sale from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Books will be available in all categories.

SCRAPBOOKING RETREAT SET: North-Mar Church, 3855 E. Market St., Warren, will hold a scrapbooking and card making retreat from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the church. Two card making creative workshops will be offered. Registration is needed due to limited space at NorthMarChurch.com /faithscraps.html

MILITARY APPRECIATION EVENT: A military appreciation and welcome back event will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Canfield Fairgrounds. Gates open at 10 a.m. Admission before 3 p.m. is free, with those with military identification to receive perks. The opening ceremony will honor all KIA and MIA soldiers. The event will include food, games, children's activities, entertainment, competitions and fireworks.

A pre-event motorcycle run will be held at 9 a.m., with riders leaving at 10 a.m., at Bike Town, 5700 Interstate Blvd., Austintown. For information, call 330-951-7206.
