Free programs aimed at youth

SATURDAY YOUTH PROGRAM EXPLORES ARTS: The Northeast Ohio Multi-Arts summer youth explosion for ages 6 to 16 will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday to July 21 at New Freedom Missionary Baptist Church, 1590 Tod Ave., Warren. The free sessions will include teen rap, cooking demonstrations, music, chess, arts, crafts and more. For information, call 330-609-4750.

NILES PLANS JULY 4 CELEBRATION: The Niles Fourth of July committee has begun planning this year's festivities which will include fireworks and a parade that honors military veterans. Those wishing to participate in the parade can contact Bonita Marchionte at 330-652-3415. Donations are requested to help defray costs of the fireworks, which are expected to cost $8,500. Donations can be sent to: Niles Fourth of July Celebration Committee, c/o Niles mayor's office, 34 W. State St., Niles, 44446.

ART HISTORIAN TO SPEAK: Jesse Bryant Wilder, a journalist, author and art historian, will speak at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library on "The New Eden - America the Beautiful: 1740-1840." The program is free to the public and will explore American art as a reflection of American history.

SCOPE CENTER CLOSED FOR WEEK: The Champion SCOPE Center will be closed today through Friday and will reopen on July 2 at its regular time of 10 a.m. when the weekly breakfasts will resume.

METROPARKS TO HOLD CAMP: The Trumbull County MetroParks will offer education programs for youth age 5 to 15 and their parents. All sessions are based on the Division of Wildlife's "Growing UpWild!" There will be hands-on activities focusing on a specific topic such as observation, wildlife and fishing. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Seven educational sessions will be offered throughout the summer months. The first, "Observing Our Wild Ohio," will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Sunside Trailhead, 547 Center St. E., Champion. Registration ends Thursday. Call 330-675-3072.
