YOUNGSTOWN - Jurors could be heard from behind the doors of the jury room on Monday in what appeared to be a heated discussion about the evidence brought forth in the trial of two males accused of murdering a teenager on the South Side last June.
Deliberations in the trial started just after 1 p.m. Monday. A verdict was not reached, and deliberations were to continue this morning.
The two - Rayshawn Royal, 18, and DeAndre McCrary, 17 - are on trial in the Mahoning County Common Pleas Courtroom of Judge Maureen Sweeney.
Prosecutors claim they killed Chaney High School student Brandon Adkins, 16, following a fist fight on the South Side.
Nautica Morgan, 15, testified last week that the two males were in her driveway with guns just before the teen was killed. However, she admitted under cross-examination that she told a different version of the story to police when she was questioned immediately after the shooting because she was scared.
Adkins was shot to death in the driveway of Morgan's 3124 South Ave. home on June 18, 2011. Police say an earlier fight led to the shooting.
