Carolyn Bornkamp Peterson 1919-2012

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - Carolyn Bornkamp Peterson, 92, formerly of Warren, passed away Monday evening, June 11, 2012, at the Johanna Shores facility of Presbyterian Homes, in Arden Hills, with two of her children and their spouses present.

A beloved pastor's wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and teacher, Carolyn was born Sept. 11, 1919, in Minneapolis, the daughter of Clarence and Beatrice Bornkamp.

She married the Rev. Kenneth N. Peterson on Oct. 17, 1939.

She was a homemaker and caregiver all of her life. She was very active in the churches in which she and Ken served. In 1949, they moved to Warren to serve Calvary United Presbyterian Church. They were there until Ken's illness in 1965. While she took care of him, she graduated from Youngstown State University, became a teacher and taught first grade at Currie School in the Mathews school district.

In 1980, she moved back to Minnesota to care for her parents. In 1994, she moved to the Presbyterian Home of Arden Hills, where she stayed until she passed away quietly. She was a woman of faith and shared her testimony all of her life.

Carolyn is survived by her brother, Dan Bornkamp of White Bear Lake, Minn., and her sister Ruth (Ray) Slipka, of Maplewood, Minn.; four children and their spouses, Brad and Lynne Peterson of St. Croix Falls, Wis., Judy and Dan Graham of Maplewood, Rebecca and Paul Bodkin of Dublin, Ireland, and Mary Beth and Doug Murphy of Cortland; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered by her extended family, friends and staff at the Johanna Shores facility of Presbyterian Homes.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, George Bornkamp; and her sister, Doris Chisholm. Cremation services were handled by Washburn McReavy Funeral Chapel in Bloomington, Minn.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. There will be no calling hours.
