YOUNGSTOWN - Police on Friday issued an arrest warrant for the suspect in a homicide Wednesday on the South Side.

Walter Drake, 26, is wanted for the murder of Dion Weatherspoon, 24, of Hilton Avenue, according to Tribune news partner Channel 33 News.

Weatherspoon was shot several times and died in a driveway at 246 Hilton Ave. about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Police said the pair had been arguing before the shooting.

Meanwhile, about 11:05 p.m. Thursday, firefighters were called to the same house for a report of a fire. They extinguished four fires on the first floor.

In the house, firefighters found an empty gas can and box of bullets, which was taken by police for evidence.

The home, driveway and sidewalk were covered in graffiti about the death of Weatherspoon, fire reports stated.

Although fire reports list the cause as under investigation, arson investigator Capt. Alvin Ware said the fire is almost definitely an arson because the home was vacant and also because of the homicide.

Weatherspoon was acquitted of murder in January 2009.

He was accused of killing William Burr, who was shot several times and found lying in the doorway of a South Avenue pizza shop in July 2007.

Burr was a witness to the murder of his brother, Anthony Perez, in December 2006. Perez was gunned down while he was fixing a car in the driveway of a South Side home.

Weatherspoon's death is the city's 15th homicide of the year.
