Leonard A. Bean, of Niles, celebrated his 90th birthday May 5 with a party at Ciminero's Banquet Center when 60 guests shared in the festivities celebrating his life and achievements.

Bean, who was born on May 7, 1922, has lived in Niles most of his life.

He was a Sergeant Major in WWII, serving in the U.S. Army and was present at the Nuremberg trials.

Following the war, he worked at Republic Steel in Warren, and went on to meet and marry the love of his life, Mildred Lewis Bean, also of Niles. The couple were married more than 50 years.

Bean retired after working 44 years at the mill and today he still remains active. He enjoys gardening and is a loyal fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Indians.

He also collects nutcrackers and enjoys the love and companionship of his dog Lucy, his family and his friends.
