NILES MAN EARNS HOSPICE HONOR: Niles native and social worker Greg Kovach, director of outreach services for the Ohio Buckeye Chapter of the National MS Society in Independence, was recently honored with the Crossroads Hospice Caring More award for over a decade of committed service to people with the disease. Through his outreach in 38 counties, Kovach secures medical equipment, financial assistance, transportation and counseling, serves as a policy advocate on the society's government committees and visits hundreds of residents' homes with volunteers during the holidays with gift bags.

Created by Crossroads Hospice, the Caring More award honors a social worker who goes above and beyond for his / her patients and community. Kovach received a $500 cash prize and $500 to present to his chapter.

CANCER SUPPORT GROUP HOSTS SEMINAR: A cancer support group will meet at 7 p.m. June 21 at Calvary Bible Church, 2878 Warren-Meadville Road, Cortland. Anyone that has been afflicted with any type of cancer is welcome to attend along with their family and friends. Debbie Moore, a health initiative representative from the American Cancer Society will be the special speaker.

SENIORS LUNCHEON HOSTS MOBILE MEALS: St. Joseph Hospital Seniors Luncheon is being held at 2:30 p.m. today, 667 Eastland Ave. S.E., Warren.

Sandy Mathews of Trumbull County Mobile Meals will explain how seniors may qualify for meals to be delivered to their homes and any other questions concerning the program.

OSTOMY CLUB TO MEET: Pharmacists from Humility of Mary Health Partners will discuss how ostomies affect the absorption of medications during the June meeting of the Youngstown Area Ostomy Support Group. Sponsored by Humility of Mary Health Partners, the group will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today in the Cedar Room at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

The group provides information and encouragement to individuals who have or will have ostomies.

The meeting is free and open to ostomy patients, families and friends. Refreshments are provided and parking is free. For information, call 330-480-3440.

The Youngstown Area Ostomy Support Group meets once a month at alternating locations in Trumbull and Mahoning counties.

FARMERS MARKETS PLANNED: Farmers markets will be held through October at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Belmont Avenue, Youngstown, and St. Joseph Minor Emergency on Tod Avenue in Warren.

The Lake-to-River Food Cooperative is partnering with HMHP on bringing fresh produce to its employees and nearby neighbors. Farmers who produce locally grown, sustainable produce will be featured at each of the markets, which are scheduled May through October.

The St. Joe's Minor Emergency event will be 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on first Wednesday in the facility's main lobby. The next date is changed to July 11 due to July 4 holiday.

Future farmers markets at St. Elizabeth will be held 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month from June to October.

Future events for St. Joseph Minor Emergency are scheduled for the first Wednesday of the month (except for holidays) from July through October.

NILES HOLDS IMMUNIZATION CLINIC: An immunization clinic will be offered from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. June 20, at the Niles Health Department, 34 W. State St. A parent or guardian must have the child's immunization records. Children younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult. For information, call 330-544-9000, Ext. 163.

WELL-CHILD IMMUNIZATION CLINIC SET:?A?well-child immunization clinic will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Girard Health Department, located in the City Building. A $10 administration fee will be charged. Dr. James J. Enyeart, medical director, conducts the examinations. Parents are to bring a copy of the child's immunization record, and a parent or guardian must accompany children younger than 18 years old. To preregister your child, call the Health Department from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at 330-545-6048.

FLU CLINIC TO BE HELD: A flu clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. daily at Warren West Community Health Center, 716 Tod Ave., Warren. Medicaid and Medicare will be accepted. All others are $20 each. Walk-ins are welcome. For more information, call 330-373-0222.

IMMUNIZATION CLINICS OFFERED: Warren City Health Department is offering a children's immunization clinic from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. June 18, at the Warren City Health Department, 418 Main Ave. S.W., Warren.

PRESENTATION TO HOSPITAL: The Sharon Regional Health System Auxiliary recently hosted the 2012 Charity Ball wrap-up luncheon where they presented a check for $110,000 to several members of the Sharon Regional administrative team. The check reflects the proceeds from the 2012 ball, which was held on April 21 at Avalon Golf and Country Club at Buhl Park. The proceeds were part of a three-year pledge for the expansion and renovation of Sharon Regional's Cancer Care Center on Highland Road in Hermitage. The 2013 Charity Ball is already scheduled for April 13, 2013, at Avalon Golf and Country Club at Buhl Park.
