ORCHID: To the Greater Youngstown Area Soap Box Derby being held today along West Main Street in Cortland by the Trumbull County Agriculture and Family Education Center. Drivers ages 8 to 17 from Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties compete in three divisions.
ONION: To officials with Youngstown State University who are considering a 3.5 percent tuition increase, or $130 a semester, beginning in fall. The university's finance and facilities committee has approved the proposal. The full board of trustees votes on it Wednesday.
ORCHID: For the eighth-annual Wonder of Wildlife Bicycle Tour today at Kent State Trumbull Technology Building in Champion. Participants can bike 20, 40 or 62 miles along the Western Reserve Greenway through farmland, wetlands and waterways. It's sponsored by the Western Reserve Greenway and Trumbull County MetroParks.
ONION: Why have there been two instances where trucks in the area have had the boom on the beds raised resulting in the bed striking an overpass? One happened in 2007 and another on Thursday. Both incidents resulted in death. There has to be a safer way for truck drivers to know whether or not their bed is raised or in the correct position while traveling.
ORCHID: For the annual Doggie Day event Sunday at Mosquito Lake State Park. It's sponsored by the Friends of the Mosquito Lake Dog Park. There will be demonstrations, vendors and prizes for best tricks.
ORCHID: To the Cortland Library Branch as it holds its ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening today for its new location at 578 Lakeview Drive. The library closed at its North High Street location on May 31.
ORCHID: To Cortland native Jeremy Markovich, who recently won two regional Emmy Awards at the 26th Emmy Awards in Nashville. He is the son of John and Laurie Markovich of Cortland, a 1998 graduate of Lakeview High School and a 2002 graduate of Ohio University.
ORCHID: To the Bazetta Township Police Department and Mosquito Lake Marina for hosting the 10th-annual Safety Day today at Mosquito Lake State Park.
ORCHID: For the Churchill Park children's summer day camp in Liberty celebrating its 60th year of offering recreational activities for kids. Camp begins Monday.
