Dog park celebrates Doggie Days

Doggie Days returns to Mosquito Lake Dog Park, State Route 305, Bazetta, from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Dog owners can test their pets' skills in a variety of games and activities, and prizes will be awarded in a best trick contest.

The cost is $3 for each activity or $10 for all, and proceeds will support the dog park and its projects.

Art market set for B&O Station

The Artists of the Rust Belt will have its Summer Market from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the B&O Station, 530 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown.

Local artists will be displaying and selling work in a variety of media.

Admission is free, and refreshments will be available. For more information, call 330-219-9539.

Summerfest plans flag project

The public art project "Twenty-Twelve Flags" will be part of the Summer Festival of the Arts.

Since 2012 is an election year, inspiring the spirit of democracy, artists are invited to incorporate their idea of a flag design to be displayed during the event on July 7-8 at Youngstown State University. Artists are asked to come up with an original design for a flag that best promotes themselves, their family crest, a state, country, school, university, feelings, business/organization etc.

The format is a 2-foot-by-3-foot canvas, vertically oriented. Artists are encouraged to use recycled or repurposed materials. The canvas will be supplied by Art Youngstown, Inc., and can be picked up between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. today and Friday at Bliss Hall. Artists must be age 16 or older. There is no cost to participate, but artists must preregister by calling Lori Factor at 330-941-3105 or emailing lafactor@ysu.edu.

Children's theater classes offered

Salem Community Theatre is offering youth acting classes starting the week of June 11.

The classes, which will be taught by drama instructor, director and playwright Patricia M. Fagan will be held on 5 consecutive days, Monday through June 15, with a "Work Sharing" session on June 16 for parents and family to observe student progress. Classes will be divided into three age groups: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. for grades 1-3, 11 a.m. to noon for grades 4-6 and noon to 1 p.m. for grades 7-12.
