Black bear sighted

in McDonald tree

McDONALD - A black bear was found up a tree in the backyard of 737 Illinois Ave. here late Sunday, according to Trumbull County emergency dispatchers.

Trumbull County Sheriff's deputies monitored the bear.

It was unclear whether this bear was the same one reported in Hubbard a week ago.

Ohio Department of Natural Resources officials say sightings this time of year are common because young adult bears are attempting to make it on their own.

Worn-out flags being collected in Howland

HOWLAND - Shepherd of the Valley in Howland is collecting tired, torn and faded American flags in need of retirement.

Anyone with a flag in need of retirement may bring it to Shepherd of the Valley-Howland, 4100 North River Road, Warren, through June 14. The retirement ceremony will be held by a local Boy Scout Troop 7 p.m. June 14, Flag Day.

Johnston to discuss nuisance properties

JOHNSTON - Township trustees have scheduled a special meeting 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the VFW Hall, 5299 Warren Road, for a public hearing to review, discuss and address eight nuisance properties.

Properties that are deemed nuisances have excess vegetation, garbage and other debris.
