WARREN - Local unemployment rates continued to improve in April, although fewer people were looking for work.
Warren's preliminary rate improved to 8.7 percent from a revised 10.3 percent in the same month last year, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported Tuesday.
The city's labor pool slipped to 17,500 from 17,700, suggesting more workers were giving up the job search, although the number of unemployed workers fell to 1,500 from 1,800.
Trumbull County's rate fell to 7.6 percent from 9.5 percent in the year-ago month. The number of available workers dipped to 100,000 from 101,600.
Youngstown's rate fell to 10 percent from 11.6 percent last year, while Mahoning County's rate tumbled to 8.1 percent from 9.6 percent.
The metropolitan Trumbull and Mahoning counties rates improved to 7.9 percent from a revised 9.6 percent for the month.
County and city rates are compared year-over-year because they're not adjusted for seasonal trends, such as construction hiring in the spring and layoffs of holiday workers after Christmas.
