FARMERS' MARKETS PLANNED: Farmers markets are starting this month at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Belmont Avenue, Youngstown, and St. Joseph Minor Emergency on Tod Avenue in Warren. The sites have been selected because these areas are considered food deserts by the United States Department of Agriculture. A food desert is a place without access to fresh produce.
The Lake-to-River Food Cooperative is partnering with HMHP on bringing fresh produce to its employees and nearby neighbors. Farmers who produce locally grown, sustainable produce will be featured at each of the markets, which are scheduled May through October.
Many of the vendors at these farmers markets will accept WIC and the Ohio Direct EBT card. Payroll deduction will be available for HMHP employees.
St. Joe's Minor Emergency event will be 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 6 in the facility's main lobby.
Future farmers markets at St. Elizabeth will be held 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month from June to October.
Future events for St. Joseph Minor Emergency are scheduled for the first Wednesday of the month (except for holidays) from July through October.
SENIOR CENTER HOLDS HEALTH FAIR: The Farmington Senior Center Inc., 150 College St., West Farmington, will hold a health fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday.
