Official supports taxpayers, businesses

May 20, 2012

DEAR EDITOR:

I write in response to the May 13 Tribune editorial, "Prevent spending disaster," which depicted me as a state legislator "anxious to spend, spend, spend."

I am proud of my record of support for taxpayers and small businesses alike. I voted in support of House Bill 1 during this General Assembly, which created the not-for-profit venture entity JobsOhio in order to rejuvenate investment in Ohio. I introduced Senate Bill 314 this spring with Sen. Mark Wagoner (R-Ottawa Hills) in order to more fully delineate JobsOhio's function from that of the Ohio Department of Development. The legislation would support small businesses, Ohio tourism and Appalachia.

I have also been a consistent supporter of regulatory reform throughout my tenure in the Ohio Senate, having served on the Ohio Regulatory Reform Task Force and even in introducing my own regulatory reform legislation to help business cut through the red tape and grow.

The state of Ohio - Ashtabula and Trumbull counties in particular - is a great resource for businesses willing to invest here and I look forward to continuing my support for entrepreneurial initiatives and sound fiscal policy, all while supporting and strengthening the middle class.

Capri S. Cafaro
