DEAR EDITOR:
In your May 12 edition, you gave an onion to people who jog on streets and roadways, arguing that there are perfectly good sidewalks parallel with the street. It is no wonder that Ohio ranks as the 13th fattest state when we complain about people trying to improve their health by running.
You obviously haven't attempted to run on sidewalks or even side streets for that matter. Most city sidewalks are uneven, and you would have to stare at your feet while you run to make sure you don't trip and fall. Have you ever tried to run while looking straight down at your feet?
Additionally, side streets are even more dangerous, forcing runners to weave in and out of parked cars while moving cars are unable to see you until the last second. Embrace people inspired by your Fitness Challenge who want to get healthy by running rather than complaining about them.
