Mineral Ridge boys, McDonald girls lead at Springfield

NEW MIDDLETOWN - McDonald's girls and Mineral Ridge boys lead after day one of the Division III Springfield district track and field meet at Springfield Local High School.

McDonald's Tory Ross and Jai'lyn Mosley finish 1-2, respectively, in the girls shot put - giving the Blue Devils 18 of their points.

McDonald's boys 4x800-meter relay of Allan Coviello, Kyle Joynes, Bobby Johnson, Patrick Kunkel won the event and Mineral Ridge's team of Dallas Bright, Logan Smith, John Cardona and Tyler Mohr took fourth.

The top four in each event advance to next week's Division III regional at Navarre Fairless High School.

Jackson-Milton's Colton Horvath won the boys long jump, Ursuline's Rondel Armour was third and Mineral Ridge's Casey Porter was fourth.

Springfield Local's Stephen Lyons took first in the boys discus, Ursuline's Jesse Curry was third and Mineral Ridge's Jacob Chiclowe took fourth.

Lowellville's Kelly Hynes took first in the girls high jump, while Mineral Ridge's Katie Fife was third.

United's girls won the 4x800. McDonald's girls team of Abby D'Amore, Bobbi Oaks, Kenzie Srock and Sarah Jones was second.

The remaining finals start at 4 p.m., Friday.
