WARREN - Area youth were honored for their accomplishments during the sixth annual Inspiring Minds gala ''Inspired Tastes World Dining Tour.''
The event, which was attended by nearly 400 people, was held at St. Demetrios Community Center and featured international foods from eight countries.
Deryck Toles, founder and executive director of the youth-focused Inspiring Minds, said the event recognizes the achievements of students who participate in the Inspiring Minds after-school educational, community service and athletic programs.
A number of scholarships donated by area businesses were presented to high school seniors Jalaya Provitt, Maria Tickerhoof, Sharnze Roper, Brock Bogan and Kyler Jefferson to further their education at Case Western Reserve University, Thiel College, Kent State University and The Ohio State University.
Also this year, a Community Achievement Award was presented to Michelle Stoutamire, an English teacher at Warren G. Harding High School. She was recognized for her dedication to her students, especially those from Inspiring Minds. The award recognizes an individual who has provided much-needed inspiration and support for students.
Inspiring Minds is a nonprofit outreach organization that works with traditionally under-represented youth in the community.
