SHEPHERD-NILES RECEIVES PERFECT STATE SURVEY: Shepherd of the Valley-Niles Assisted Living Community, 1500 McKinley Ave., recently received a perfect score on its annual state survey. Assisted living communities housing 17 or more people are licensed and surveyed annually by the Ohio Department of Health. Ohio has 598 assisted living communities, which must meet 324 regulations to achieve a perfect survey. Each year, fewer than half achieve that goal.
Surveys cover everything from building codes to staffing requirements and family and resident satisfaction.
APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE FOR SENIORS INTERESTED IN SOFTBALL: For all seniors 50 and older who are interested in playing softball starting in June, applications are available at Johnny K's Powersports in Niles, K&G Tanning / Fitness in Warren and the Niles Rec Center at Waddell Park. GUARDIAN ANGELS SEEK VOLUNTEERS: The Guardian Angels of Ohio, a volunteer program of the Trumbull County Probate Court, is looking for new volunteers. Angel volunteers receive training to become advocates who reach out as friends to seniors, who may need a friendly phone call, a visit in a nursing home or a visit at home. Angels also are involved in planning special events for seniors such as health fairs and Make A Difference Day projects.
