WENDELL, N.C. - Mary Ann Spahr, 79, formerly of Smith Mountain Lake, Va., passed away peacefully Sunday, April 22, 2012.
Mary Ann was born Jan. 7, 1933, in Warren.
She married Joseph Spahr in 1953. The family moved from Ohio to New York in 1969.
She was an avid gardener, sold real estate and was a dental receptionist in the early 1970s. The biggest accomplishment in her life was as an EMT with the town of Lewisboro from the mid 1970s to 1980s. She was a Citizen of the Year in 1988.
Mary Ann and Joe retired to Smith Mountain Lake in 1985.
In August of 2011, Mary Ann moved to Wendell to live with her daughter, Victoria, and son-in-law, Ted.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, in 1999; and a grandson, Matthew Myron, in 2010, son of Victoria Dodson.
She is survived by four children, David (SueAnn) Spahr of Arizona, Valerie (Paul) Franz of Vermont, Victoria (Ted) Dodson of Wendell and Brian (Danielle) Spahr of New York; six grandchildren, Robert and Garrett Myron, Sarah and Adam Spahr, and Rachel and Michael Franz; and three siblings, Leo and Ron Scerba, and Frances Donko, all of Ohio; and 4 1/4 great-grandchildren.
A Catholic Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Resurrection Catholic Church, Moneta, Va.
Arrangements are being handled by Strickland Funeral Home, Wendell, N.C.
