Howland High School junior, Corinne Jacobs, was recently recognized by the Howland Board of Education after her design was chosen as the official website for the district. The website is www.howlandschools.com.
Playing with computers since she was 10, Corinne, 17, designed her first website in her sophomore year as a project in the classroom of teacher Ann Gall.

Corinne, a junior at Howland High School, has been designing websites since she was a sophomore. After high school, Corinne plans to attend college for web design. ''When I started the class, I really liked it,'' Corinne said.
Since then, Corinne has taught herself a few computer languages and coding programs such as Illustration and Dreamweaver. She also goes online to look up tutorials that help her learn new technology and technique, she said. Her current technology teacher at the high school is Josh Metz.
Corinne also developed a website design she calls ''The One,'' which is a community-based site that can be used to encourage people to volunteer to help within their communities. One of her teachers entered the site in a scholastics contest, she said, but contest officials weren't accepting web pages in the competition. After fine-tuning the site, she entered it in another competition at the Pittsburgh Technical Institute and won a $4,000 scholarship to the college. Corinne's web design was displayed in the Robinson Mall in Pittsburgh during the month of March, Corinne said.
Corinne is the daughter of Sherry Jacobs of Howland and is the granddaughter of Leona and Walter Bailey.
''I'm so proud of her,'' said Sherry Jacobs. ''She's a wonderful child. We are so blessed.''
