WARREN - The Ohio Department of Public Safety's hydraulic fracturing committee is meeting in Ashtabula in May.

The public, elected officials, safety forces and private industry representatives are invited to attend the May 17 meeting at the Ashtabula County Board of Commissioners meeting room on the second floor of the Old Courthouse, 25 W. Jefferson St. It will begin at 10:30 a.m.

The committee will hear public input on oil and gas exploration and hydraulic fracturing, the process of removing oil and natural gas from underground deposits. Committee members will answer questions and explain the direction the state is taking relative to public safety relative to oil and gas.

The committee was formed to make sure safety is a high consideration in dealing with drilling in Ohio, according to a news release.
