Issue sheds negative light on SCOPE

March 25, 2012

DEAR EDITOR:

Recently some members from Cortland SCOPE tried to attend a board meeting . We were refused as Janet Schweitzer told us we needed to be put on the agenda.

She did tell us if we waited she would invite us in. We waited an hour, she invited us in and the board members were gone. That is who we wanted to see. Our concerns were getting a larger facility and a bathroom issue. Our main concern was a bigger building. She made the bathroom her priority.

We did get to tell her our concerns regarding leaving out SCOPE members from meetings and not knowing what was going on at all the centers. We felt we were treated rudely and unfair. Janet invited us to attend the next month's meeting as it was going to be a celebration for 50 years. We left not knowing if any of our concerns would be taken to the board or not. We later found out none were.

The board knew little if nothing of our conversation with Janet. At the anniversary dinner we were treated more rudely than we had been at the board meeting. We were forcibly and rudely prohibited from entering the party by Janet Schweitzer's husband and Jane Skelton. It was more for dignitaries than for members.

We became know as the disgruntled members of Cortland SCOPE and it's shedding a negative light on SCOPE in general. We did not intend this to happen. We only want to make SCOPE bigger and better and include members in what is going on. We did get to meet with some of the board members and they said they would work with us to address our concerns.
