YSU sets records in Horizon League meet

BROWN?DEER, Wis. - All three individuals who competed set season bests while both the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relay teams set school records on the first night of action at the Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Wednesday.

In the 1,000-yard freestyle, sophomore Megan Ciampa posted a season-best time of 10:34.30 to place 11th. Also in the event, sophomore Brittany Vigar posted a time of 10:50.31 to finish 18th and senior Katie Wolf had a season-best time of her own at 11:07.69 in finishing 21st.

In the first event of the meet, YSU placed sixth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:35.66. That time set on Thursday by Kirstin Walker, Nishani Cicilson, Audria Grubbs and Soyriah Davis eclipsed the school record by a full second.

To end the night, the medley relay squad of Ashley Dow, Samantha Roberts, Laura Paz and Cicilson broke the school mark by two seconds with a time of 1:44.53 to place fourth. The previous mark was 1:46.59.

After the first three events, the Penguins have 61 points and reside in sixth place out of eight teams. Milwaukee leads with 109 points.

The championships continue on Thursday morning at 11:30 a.m. Eastern Time. Events set for tomorrow are the 500 and 50-yard freestyles and the 200 IM as well as the one-meter dive.
