"She's been a four-year starting point guard and she's been our leading scorer and rebounder all four years. She brings a lot of leadership and is a great example for the kids off the floor as well. She's a once in a decade player and a once in a decade kid as well." - Badger coach Dusty Karr.

Kieran Hernon, Harding

Sport: Swimming.

Class: Senior.

Age: 18.

Height: 6-6.

Kieran last week: Won the 50 freestyle (23.06) and 100 freestyle (51.49) and helped Harding win the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay as the Raiders won to go to 15-3 heading into the Lake Erie League championship meet on Saturday.

About Kieran: Kieran likes to play golf and water polo, and likes to watch movies and TV. "I feel like I'm where I should be going into state this year. He's got a great work ethic and leads by example real well. He's a great leader by example." - Harding coach Steve Lukco.

Zach McDivitt, Lakeview

Sport: Basketball.

Class: Senior.

Age: 18.

Height: 5-11.

Zach last week: Tied a school record by making eight 3-pointers on Friday against Champion and scored 28 points. Also had 15 points against Grand Valley on Tuesday. The Bulldogs won both games.

About Zach: Zach is a member of Beta and the National Honor Society and plays on the Lakeview varsity tennis team. "I play tennis a lot. I go on a lot of camping trips with my family. (Tying the school record for 3-pointers) felt good. I just kind of got into the offense. I started making the first couple and I guess I got a lot of confidence. Work pays off because I went down to the gym over the summer. The janitors would let me in and I just shot until I got confident." - Zach McDivitt. "Anthony Franco, our point guard, had been out for about three weeks with a hurt knee and Zach had been filling in. Anthony came back (on Friday) so we moved Zach back to shooting guard. Zach leads us in assists, is fourth in rebounding and is having a really solid season. He's also a three-year starter." - Lakeview coach George Lanterman.

J.R. Perry, Howland

Sport: Wrestling.

Class: Senior.

Age: 17

Height: 5-8

J.R. last week: Perry, a 120-pound wrestler, became the first wrestler in Howland High School history to win four straight Howland Invitational Tournament titles on Saturday. "I feel pretty special about that," Perry said. "I will always been in the history of Howland. I'm just happy about it." ... Perry has placed as high as sixth at the state wrestling tournament his sophomore season, coming in at 103. ... Wednesday, Perry won his 100th match against Canfield.

About J.R.: "His speed is so fast. I've never seen a kid in wrestling that is as fast as him. He can bring that attitude you need to be at the top. The kids that win have a different mentality. He's not afraid to take shots and chances when he's wrestling. He's always wrestling hard." - Howland coach Bill Beasom. "Most kids aren't as quick as I am. I run a lot sprints, jump rope and do a lot of lifting weights with my ledge. I know the extra work I put in and I know those kids aren't putting in as much as I'm putting in." - J.R. Perry.

Zach Richards, Champion

About Zach: Zach said he likes to hang out with his friends and he does homework when he's not bowling. "I usually bowl almost every day of the week, whether it's practice or a match or on my own time. I played football four years and lettered for three years. I ran track the last three years and lettered the last two years." - Zach Richards. "He's our team captain. The last three years he's been chosen All-American Conference first team. He's a good leader and he helps out with the boys. He's very cool headed. He's very supportive to the other players and he's willing to help them out as much as he can." - Champion coach Brian Gill.

Marissa Simon, Liberty

Sport: Bowling.

Class: Junior.

Age: 17.

The team's coming along nicely and I'm very proud of them." - Marissa Simon. "She's aggressive and she's a team leader. We have a young team so she gets the spirits up and gets them involved. She's very helpful and supportive. It shows because everybody's game is improving. We had our best game as a team this year. She's a good student and daughter which makes it tough as a coach because there's a lot of emotion involved. The adrenaline gets pumping up so you have to step back for a moment." - Liberty coach Frank Simon.

Emily Thirion, Harding

Sport: Swimming.

Class: Freshman.

Age: 15.

Height: 5-6.

Emily last week: Won the 200 individual medley (2:15.42) and the 100 freestyle (56.40) as well as being a part of the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams as Harding defeated Cleveland Heights to improve to 9-9 this season.

About Emily: "Other than swimming a Key Club, I'm on the Student Council and a member of Page One. I couldn't be more pleased (with the season). I completely love the school and the team. I'd really like to make it to state and can go with other members of my team." - Emily Thirion. "Emily is a great swimmer all around. Every stroke she can do and win any meet we're in. The biggest thing is her work ethic. She's happy to be here and enjoys swimming. That rubs off on the other swimmers. She's a joy to coach and a great kid." - Harding coach Steve Lukco.
