VISIT A NURSING HOME WEEK: The Ohio Department of Aging has declared Dec. 24 to 31 as the sixth annual Visit a Nursing Home Week in Ohio and encourage all Ohioans to use the time between Christmas and New Year's Day to continue a tradition or develop a new habit of sharing their time and compassion with residents all year long.

Those wishing to participate may find facilities in their area by visiting the Long-term Care Consumer Guide at www.ltcohio.org or calling the Office of the State Long-term Care Ombudsman at 800-282-1206.

HOWLAND SCHOOLS RETIREES TO?MEET:?Howland Schools Retirees will hold the first meeting of 2012 at 11 a.m. on Jan. 3 at Enzo's Restaurant. Those attending are asked to a bring nonperishable food item for Emmanuel Center. Suggestions are cans of soup or dry mix soup; cans of spaghetti, chili and ravioli; dry pasta; and packets or tins of hot chocolate.

Cost of the lunch, payable at the door, is $10, with a choice from three to four entrees offered. All retired school personnel, classified and nonclassified are welcome to attend the group's monthly lunch meetings. Spouses and guests of retirees are also welcome.

Retirees should return their response cards if they received one with their newsletter, or call Mary at 330-856-5226 by the Saturday prior to the meeting so an accurate count can be relayed to the restaurant.

AARP OFFERS REVIEW OF SKILLS: Trumbull County Senior Court AARP Driver's Safety Program offers a certified instructor to provide a review of driving skills and techniques as well as strategies to help seniors adjust to physical changes that may affect their driving ability. The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members.

Class will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Jan. 13, at the Liberty Administration Building. Refreshments and snacks will be served.

GUARDIAN ANGELS NEEDS VOLUNTEERS: The Guardian Angels of Ohio, a volunteer program of the Trumbull County Probate Court, is looking for volunteers. Angel volunteers receive training to become advocates who reach out as friends to seniors who may need a friendly phone call, a visit in a nursing home, or a visit at home. Angels are also involved in planning special events for seniors, such as health fairs and Make A Difference day projects.

UFCW LOCAL 880 RETIREES MEET: The next regular meeting of UFCW Local 880 Retirees will be 10 a.m. Jan. 10 at Davidson's Restaurant, Cornersburg. Membership is open to all UFCW Local 880 Retirees. All UFCW Local 880 retirees can bring a guest. For questions, call 330-544-5656 or 330-788-2181.

AARP TAX-AIDE: AARP Tax-Aide is a program of the AARP Foundation which is offered in conjunction with the IRS. This program provides free tax preparation for taxpayers who need assistance filing their tax returns for the Tax Year 2011.

The Tax-Aide program in Trumbull County is seeking volunteers to assist in tax preparation for the upcoming tax year. The Trumbull County program takes place at 11 sites throughout the county. No tax experience is needed as training will be provided.

BE?A?SANTA?TO?A?SENIOR:?Home Instead Senior Care is teaming up with nonprofit agencies and area retailers to sponsor Be a Santa to a Senior - a program that collects, wraps and delivers gifts to lonely and needy seniors in the Youngstown / Boardman area.

Upcoming dates include delivery of gifts to seniors in the community today and Saturday.

FREE?LUNCHES?AVAILABLE:?Ward Center Presbyterian Church, 490 Lucy St., Masury, will serve free lunches for senior citizens 60 and older from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the third and fourth Wednesdays of each month.

PERI TO?MEET:?PERI?will meet at 11:15 a.m. Dec. 15 at DiLucia's Restaurant, 2610 Elm Road N.E., Warren. There is no speaker due to a Christmas party. Reservations are needed by calling Sally at 330-898-1585 or Barbara at 330-372-2603.

MEAL?SITES?AVAILABLE:?The Trumbull County Nutrition Program for the Elderly is provided by the Trumbull County Office of Elderly Affairs and operates nutrition sites at 10 locations throughout Trumbull County. These sites provide a meal and the opportunity for socialization. Donations will be accepted.

Any senior citizen 60 and older and spouses of those 60 and older are welcome for lunch at any of the following sites:
