Historical Society to host concert

The Hubbard Historical Society will celebrate the holidays with a live concert featuring opera singer Jason Budd at the First Presbyterian Church of Hubbard, 22 Westview Avenue on Nov. 26.

Budd will be performing "A Classical Christmas Concert,'' where he will sing some of his favorite Christmas carols in this rare concert appearance.

Door open at 6 p.m. with the concert to begin at 7 p.m.

Following the concert, hors d'oeuvres will be served and meet and greet with Budd will be held.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased by calling society president Jackie Orlando at 330-534-1295, Debbie Shields at 534-9533 or the concert hotline at 330-534-7818.

Budd has quickly become a well-respected singer with great command of the stage. In the current season, he received unanimous critical acclaim for his portrayal of Bartolo in "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" with the Michigan Opera Theatre. He has performed with the Orlando Opera in several roles including the title role in Gianni Schicchi, Major General in "Pirates of Penzance," The Bonze in "Madama Butterfly," Pooh-Bah in "The Mikado," 1st Soldier / 5th Jew in "Salome," Crespel / Luther in "Les contes d'Hoffmann," Monterone in "Rigoletto," Don Florito in "Luisa Fernanda," Benoit / Alcindoro in "La Boheme," Sir Joseph in "HMS Pinafore," Antonio in "Le Nozze di Figaro," Melchoir in "Amahl" and the Night Visitors and Speaker / First Priest in "The Magic Flute" and Sacristan in "Tosca," with Carol Vaness in the title role.

He was was recently selected as a finalist in the 2007 Bel Canto Vocal Scholarship.

The Hubbard Historical Society's historical McBride House, 27 Hager St., is funded and maintained entirely by donations and fundraisers. The house is open from 2 to 5 p.m. the second Sunday of each month and is available for tours by appointment.
