DEAR EDITOR:
I would like someone to explain to me how a family is supposed to pay out-of-pocket for health insurance for their family when they are living paycheck to paycheck?
The state is telling me that we make too much to get state assistance, yet if I get it through my work, it will cost me $300 per paycheck.
How in the world am I supposed to get this insurance when I am only part-time and bringing home now roughly $450 per paycheck? Who can feed their family and put gas in their car on $150 for two weeks?
Mind you, my husband is getting Social Security disability because he cannot work due to the fact that he has mental issues and extensive lung and breathing problems.
I have three teenage boys who require health exams and doctor visits for multiple reasons and I have to pick and choose who can go and when.
Where does a mom who is trying to hold it all together and take care of her family and work and budget and make home repairs find the resources to find, obtain and pay for desperately needed health insurance?
