VALLEY LEGACY HONORS 60 OR OLDER: The Valley Legacy Awards, recognizing outstanding seniors and senior advocates from Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, is now accepting nominations for honorees for the year 2011.

The awards honor people 60 or older who deserve recognition for a lifetime of working to improve the Mahoning Valley, as well as to individuals who have provided exceptional support of older Americans through their professional, volunteer or civic roles.

Nominations can be in one of two categories, Outstanding Senior and Outstanding Senior Advocate. Nominations must be postmarked by July 30. All nominees and the award recipients will be honored at the Seventh Annual Valley Legacy Awards Luncheon on Oct. 19.

LAKE VISTA ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP: Lake Vista of Cortland Retirement Community, 303 N. Mecca St., and Senior Independence Home Health and Hospice are announcing their partnership to establish an iVillage program on the Lake Vista campus.

The Senior Independence iVillage program helps residents who want to remain in their independent living apartments as they require more assistance. Customized service plans may include homemaking, help with regular routines and pet care.

TRUMBULL SENIORS SALUTE AMERICA: The Trumbull Senior Production Company, dancers, singers and performers 50 and older, will be performing a ''Salute to America'' from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Eastwood Mall in the Center Court.

AARP DRIVER'S SAFETY IS REVIEW: Trumbull County Senior Court AARP Driver's Safety Program offers a certified instructor to provide a review of driving skills and techniques as well as strategies to help seniors adjust to physical changes that may affect their driving ability. The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for nonmembers.

Classes will be held at the following locations: Girard Multi-Generational Center, July 11, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Niles SCOPE, July 26, noon to 4 p.m.; Cortland SCOPE, Aug 11, noon to 4 p.m.; West Farmington Senior Center, Aug 23, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

FREE LUNCHES OFFERED: Ward Center Presbyterian Church, 490 Lucy St., Masury, will serve free lunches for those 60 and older from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the third and fourth Wednesdays of each month.

NUTRITION PROGRAM: The Trumbull County Nutrition Program for the Elderly is provided by the Trumbull County Office of Elderly Affairs and operates nutrition sites at 10 locations throughout Trumbull County. These sites provide a meal and the opportunity for socialization. Donations will be accepted.

Any senior citizen 60 and older and spouses of those 60 and older are welcome for lunch at any of the following sites:

NUTRITION SITE: The Kinsman Senior Citizen nutrition site is open every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to those 60 or older or those whose spouse is 60 or older. Meals are served about noon at the Kinsman Fire Hall. A donation for the meal is accepted and the doors open at 10 a.m. Cards and bingo are played every day, and singing is on Wednesdays. LORDSTOWN SCOPE

All those 55 and older are welcome. Annual dues are $12.

Three computers with free Internet are available every day.

The SCOPE Senior Center is seeking volunteers to help seniors in the area make lap robes and walker caddies for the Shepherd of the Valley nursing home. No sewing ability is needed, just a desire to learn. The group meets at 1 p.m. every Monday.

Another area of need is the chorus. The chorus sings at Briarfield at the Ridge once a month to entertain the residents. They also perform at the center and whenever needed in the Niles community. The chorus meets at 1 p.m. every Friday.

GUARDIANSHIP PROGRAM LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS: The Guardian Angels of Ohio, a volunteer guardianship program of the Trumbull County Probate Court, is looking for volunteers. The Angels reach out to people who are elderly and alone in Trumbull County by providing trained, qualified volunteers to serve as advocates.
