VALLEY LEGACY HONORS 60 OR OLDER: The Valley Legacy Awards, recognizing outstanding seniors and senior advocates from Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, is now accepting nominations for honorees for the year 2011.
The awards honor people 60 or older who deserve recognition for a lifetime of working to improve the Mahoning Valley, as well as to individuals who have provided exceptional support of older Americans through their professional, volunteer or civic roles.
Nominations can be in one of two categories, Outstanding Senior and Outstanding Senior Advocate. Nominations must be postmarked by July 30. All nominees and the award recipients will be honored at the Seventh Annual Valley Legacy Awards Luncheon on Oct. 19.

The SCOPE Senior Center is seeking volunteers to help seniors in the area make lap robes and walker caddies for the Shepherd of the Valley nursing home. No sewing ability is needed, just a desire to learn. The group meets at 1 p.m. every Monday.
Another area of need is the chorus. The chorus sings at Briarfield at the Ridge once a month to entertain the residents. They also perform at the center and whenever needed in the Niles community. The chorus meets at 1 p.m. every Friday.
