Due to the overwhelming response to youth programs at The Art Outreach Gallery, the gallery is expanding its summer workshops and children's programs this year.
Area youth are invited to participate in the summer workshops scheduled from June 20 to July 15 at the gallery, located along the concourse between Macy's and Sears at the Eastwood Mall.
The education program is sponsored by Cafaro Foundation, Warren Area Chamber of Commerce Education, Civic & Cultural Foundation and the Eastwood Mall Complex and consists of 57 workshops.
Workshops are designed for students ages 3 to 18. Classes are conducted by area artists, art educators and art education students from Kent State University, Youngstown State University, Carnegie Mellon University, Slippery Rock University and Trumbull Career and Technical Center.
Donations from Cafaro Foundation, Warren Area Chamber of Commerce Education, Civic & Cultural Foundation, Office Max, Sherwin Williams, TCTC and community volunteers, will enable students to enter the classes with only a donation of a non-perishable food item to Second Harvest Food Bank.
''The Education Committee feels it is important to give all students an opportunity to participate in the summer workshops while teaching children the importance of giving back to the community,'' said Gail Stark, director of Art Outreach Gallery.
The gallery is seeking donations of art supplies such as watercolor and acrylic paints, paint brushes, drawing paper, markers, crayons, pencils, ink and colored pencils. Space and supplies are limited. Students must register to enter the classes.
Those attending should complete the form and drop it off at one of those locations or fax to 330-544-5929. Class information and registration forms can be downloaded at www.artoutreach.org, picked up at the Art Outreach Gallery or the Eastwood Mall Customer Service Center. Contact the Eastwood Mall office at 330-652-6980 or Gail Stark at 330-219-7833 for more information.
