OPEN HOUSE: St. Elizabeth Dental Clinic located inside the St. Elizabeth Ambulatory Care Center will hold an open house and blessing at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday to celebrate the expansion. CANCER AWARENESS: A free "Cancer 101: How it affects women" event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 9 at the New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman St., Youngstown. The free event, open to all age groups, aims to educate participants and create awareness about some of the cancer issues affecting women.
Women will be provided education on cancer related issues affecting their health. Information on breast, ovarian and cervical cancer will be provided along with interactive nutrition session and a line dance session. STAND UP, SPEAK OUT!: Stand Up, Speak Out!, an event addressing substance abuse and violence in youth, will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on April 14 at the Choffin Career and Technical Center, 200 E. Wood St., Youngstown. Youth are invited to the learning experience that will address substance abuse and violence. The session will also include fun team building interactive session by Harambee Inc, giveaways and door prizes.

COLORECTAL CANCER AWARENESS MONTH: In recognition of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, the Humility of Mary Health Partners Cancer Centers are offering free fecal occult blood test (FOBT) kits.
An FOBT is a simple chemical test that can detect hidden blood in the stool, which is a symptom of colorectal cancer. This test can be performed in the privacy of your home. Those at risk for colorectal cancer are 50 years and older, physically inactive, smokers, and those with a family history of the disease. If detected early, colorectal cancer is 90 percent curable.

HEALTHY AWARD: Sharon Regional Health System has received the Healthy Hospital Award from Ascent, a division of Stryker Corporation, for a second time. The "healthy hospital" designation is reserved for hospitals that demonstrate outstanding efforts to reduce their environmental footprint on healthcare delivery. In 2010, Sharon Regional Health System reduced supply costs by $68,441, savings that have been redirected to improving patient care. At the same time, using remanufactured and reprocessed medical devices has reduced the hospital's medical waste by 1,757 pounds. Moreover, the health system is helping to care for the environment by diverting its medical waste from local landfills through participation in the reprocessing program.
